Decorating gingerbread houses usually sounds like a good idea, and if you get on pinterest, it sounds like a really good idea. However, this is false. Gingerbread houses are not easy or fun, especially if you are decorating it for a contest....
Right now I am living at the Ivy in Rexburg while I'm going to school at BYU-Idaho. Finals are right around the corner, which also means it's time to move out, which in turn means we have to do white glove cleaning. Yay.....
Don't fret, there is a silver lining to this thundercloud! The Ivy passed the following out to each apartment:
Naturally, being the "humble" person that I am, I decided that I was going to win and not have to do my white glove cleaning. So, I went straight to pinterest to look up some ideas. Word of advice: don't do that! You can't live up to Pinterest gingerbread houses!
This is what I tried to repilicate:
I decided I was too busy to actually make gingerbread, so I was going to follow what I learned in the first grade: graham crackers!!! There aren't words to explain that disaster, so I'll just let the photo do the talking.
After that failure, I knew I needed to kick it up a notch. So, I cracked down on the homework to make enough time to bake an actual gingerbread house. Again, let me issue another Pinterest warning: The recipes don't always work!!! Imagine that....
So, I decided to do half of what I originally planned to do because I was going to murder someone if I had to roll out the dough one more time.....
Finally, all of the pieces were cut out, baked, and then cooled. After the stress of getting that done, I decided to wait until the next day to assemble and decorate it. That was a mess and half let me tell you!
But, after putting my sweat, blood, and tears into this thing, it was finally done! I'll let you all know how the contest turns out! Wish me luck!
